THE ORVIETO FESTIVAL CHOIR
In partnership with the String Festival of Orvieto, the Orvieto Festival Choir is thrilled to launch our first season. Singers are travelling from around the world to take part in the Choir. They’re coming from London, England; Zurich, Switzerland; Sydney, Australia; Milan, Italy; and throughout the United States including San Francisco, California; Seattle, Washington; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Salt Lake City, Utah; Boston, Massachusetts; New York, New York; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Primarily graduates of Phillips Exeter Academy and Germantown Friends School, members of the choir now sing in ensembles such as the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, Master Voices of New York City, the Chicago Chorale, the Bel Canto Chorus of Milwaukee, the New London Singers, St. George’s Choral Society and the St. Thomas Choir of Men and Boys. They are brought together from around the globe by a love of singing.
The choir will be in residence in Orvieto, Italy for nine days, rehearsing and performing a series of concerts in collaboration with the festival’s orchestra. The central work on the program will be Paul Mealor’s Stabat Mater for choir, string orchestra and harp. Concerts will be held in beautiful and historic venues: the Orvieto Duomo, the Acqua Pendente Duomo, and the Chiesa San Francesco as part of the Preggio Music Festival.
